The Challenge

To understand the experience of living with bipolar and schizophrenia. Bi-polar and schizophrenia have little in common other than the fact that many people who experience these disorders are stigmatized by society. Bi-polar is characterized by a change of moods from high levels of energy (mania) to feeling low and lethargic. People with schizophrenia often find it difficult to interact with others, and conduct normal life activities, and may not always be able to distinguish their own thoughts and ideas from reality.

Ethnography

Whenever possible the team worked closely alongside carers and patients on 'good days' documenting their stories in their own words and the emotional burden of the condition.

Outcome

Short stories in documentary form on the experience of symptoms, diagnosis, treatments offered and how carers, family and patients cope today.
